We have received the following information from Karen Ras:

Please see attached photos of bridge damage in Whiteoaks Park (bridge from park to the library) as a result of last Friday’s windstorm.  We had a structural engineer attend the site and provided the following recommendations:

  • The existing bridge is severely damaged and should be closed to the public
  • Salvaging the existing bridge is not feasible
  • A new galvanized steel bridge is recommended
  • The existing abutments can be used with a new bridge

Action Plan moving forward:

  • Forestry staff will work to remove the tree
  • Parks staff have installed fencing and notice disruption signage to secure the site to prevent foot traffic
  • 311 has been updated about the closure
  • We are proceeding with detailed drawings for a new bridge
  • Construction of a new bridge will happen ASAP however the bridge is expected to be out of service for some time
  • We will provide ongoing updates on timelines and progress once we have more information
